This isn't such a bad idea. With Corvette Stingray, Corvette Zora and Corvette Code?
Would a Corvette Camaro be too much?

I still hope the Code 130R will become a thing.

Because that went so well for SRT.

Not the case, Corvette is known all over the world, it won its class at Le Mans various times, it has recognition. SRT on the other hand, are just a bunch of letters slapped on some fast Chryslers and Dodges, it has no international recognition, the Vipers that won their class at Le Mans in the 90's, had a Dodge badge on them.

Not sure if it will, Not all enthusiasts are putting their money where their mouth is, with the Toyobaru.

If they did, it would probably be to utilize the same Greenhouse Gas loophole that SRT/Ram did (branch off the cars that bring down your MPG average into their own brand, only pay the penalty on that brand), but CrzRsn is telling me that loophole has been closed.

I think it would just cause confusion and a rift in the old school corvette world. then again there is a lot of older corvette people that think the last great vette built was a 67

bummer :(

It almost already is. Seems like it's pretty rare to hear "Chevrolet Corvette" together these days. It's almost always just "Corvette." That's not to mention there's not a bowtie to be found on the car. In fact, has a bowtie badge ever been on the Corvette?

Nope, they would do that to be able to sell fast cars in Europe and in other places the Chevy brand has been pulled out. And with the hope that in the future, the Corvette brand will be as prestigious as Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati or Aston Martin.

The old school Corvette people can go die, and looking at their avg, age, that could happen pretty soon, for most of them.

AND they have their own logo

You don't see Ford badges on the Mustang either, but everybody knows that's a Ford.

I live in Socal, where seeing a Ferrari is a normal sight for me everyday, yet I've only seen one SRT Viper. That's how bad it is.

That's true I just don't want companies to start separating their brands into even more sub brands, but that's just me.

Product portfolio fragmentation just for the sake of it, is something I'm not a big fan of, nor is GM, for that matter. But this makes a lot of sense. Why? Because:
1. Freeing sports cars from the Chevrolet brand, would make them available worldwide, without having to drag the mixture of old GM and new GM Korea, with them.
2. Corvette would be a great support brand for Cadillac, in its new, planned, global endeavour, selling sports cars alongside premium cars makes more sense than selling mass market cars, alongside premium cars.
3. America deserves an exclusive, sports car brand, with a badge that's desirable worldwide.
4. Zora Arkus-Duntov, the man who always pushed for an MR Corvette, deserves a car with his name, and the engine where he always dreamed it to be, even if he is long gone.

You mean besides the bowtie on the Vette's badge?

Hey I'm 42 qnd a Corvette guy. Cut me a break :). Corvette is worrh a lot as a Halo car. Besides whats wrong with an everymans Chevy that beats supercars? I'm not in it for image, just how fast it goes around the track.

Well... Don't I feel like a dummy. I had completely forgotten it was on the red flag. Fun fact: The original 1953 concept had an American flag instead of the Chevrolet flag.

Isn't Corvette its own brand in Europe and Asia already though? I remember them saying something to that effect on Top Gear once.
08/18/2014 at 05:04 |

Don't remember seeing that, you'll have to ask people in Europe and Asia. But I doubt that you can have a brand with only a 50k, car.

You don't dick around with 61 years of brand recognition, to be honest.
